No matter what kind of a business you run, your systems must be unique to you. Cookie-cutter, copycat templates stop here, because they do you zero good.
Even if you and your best friend opened cash-only bakeries next door to each other where you both ONLY sold red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting on top, the systems in your individual bakeries would still be very different, because, at the core, you both are inherently different and unique people.
You think differently; you approach problems differently; you come up with solutions differently; you handle conflict differently; your core values are different and embraced differently…the list goes on.
I know what you’re thinking: “So if every system is different in every business because every person is unique, how the hell can you claim that you have a framework that works for all businesses?”
The key word here is framework, my friend, framework.
A framework is not the same as steps. If I taught my methodology in steps, like Step 1. Do this; Step 2. Do that…sooner or later, someone’s business is not going to apply to my step-by-step process, which means everyone’s fucked, including me. I didn’t do my job right.
So, this is where creating a framework saves the day.
What is a Framework?
A framework is an organized and guided outline. It provides a structure but is also flexible enough to adapt to different situations. Frameworks are the ultimate example of structured freedom.
My favorite example of a framework is something we can all understand: pizza!
Even though there are over a gazillion combinations of pizzas out there, they still boil down to the same framework:
- A cooking method
From this simple organized and guided outline, you can create so many different end results. Pretty cool, right? The key is the strategy shift from step-by-step instructions (an in the weeds, 10-foot view) to pulling back into a 100-foot view.
PRO TIP: Besides systems, a crucial place in where you can apply frameworks is to your methodology, what you get hired for. How can you pull back enough to still be specific to help your clients/customers get awesome results AND be applicable enough to a variety of customers that are dreamy?
The Systems Creation Framework that WORKS
I teach my students how to create their own systems using a few key frameworks depending on what their end goals are. My favorite and most simple framework called Anatomy of a System, and like a pizza, this is how it goes:
- Desired Goal
Action step: think about what systems you need in your business, and work through the framework like you would build a pizza; you’re making a systems pizza!
This framework works for almost every system you need to create and in whatever you are in because I’ve backed it out enough to give my students the structured freedom they need. Can you say orgasmic?!
